Who we are

Iceni Glycoscience is located in offices and laboratories within the Norwich Research Park Innovation Centre, Norfolk, UK. Situated in close proximity to a major cluster of academic and research institutions on the park, Iceni Glycoscience has immediate access to a wealth of additional complementary expertise and state-of-the-art platform technologies.

Our history

Iceni Glycoscience began life as Iceni Diagnostics, a Norwich-based spin-out from the University of East Anglia and the John Innes Centre. Established in 2014 by David Russell and Rob Field, the company is positioned to be a market leader in the use of carbohydrates as an untapped approach to diagnostics and therapeutics.

Since our inception, we have been developing a carbohydrate technology platform to support a portfolio for human and animal health. This has resulted in an exciting pipeline of potential new products.

In January 2018, I obtained my degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Pisa. After working as a Quality Control Analyst, I secured a position as an early-stage career researcher in the European project called PoLiMeR (Polymers in the Liver – Metabolism and Regulation). Since the beginning of my research project in 2019, I have been working on a methodology to investigate the structure of glycogen in Glycogen Storage Diseases (GSDs).

I obtained my master’s degree in chemistry from University of East Anglia then moved to do my PhD study in biochemistry/carbohydrate synthesis at John Inness Centre in Norwich. My first postdoctoral position was taken at the Babraham Institute in Cambridge, where we were working on understanding the changes of collagen in aging tissues. The second postdoctoral position was taken at the John Innes Centre in Norwich, where we were looking into the synthesis of carbohydrate-based veterinary vaccine. Currently, I work on carbohydrate synthesis.
